Wed Recap: What I didn't get to see

As cliche and stereotypical as it is, every post wedding bride will remind others that the day really does go by way too fast.  Even though Mr Fix It and I took a few moments during the cocktail hour to walk into the reception area first before our guests so we could see everything all set up, I still missed seeing half of the details and elements of our decor and venue that I was excited about and had spent so much time on.

Some of the things that I never saw on our actual wedding day:

Our gift table - hell, for all I know, someone could have made off with all the gifts and I never would have known anyone even brought anything for us!

Our memorial table - this truly disappointed me that I didn't get to see this because our photographer didn't even get a shot of it and I had purchased personalized vases and had set out a poem and digital frame with scrolling photos of all of our closest loved ones who had passed on.  Even though it was set up right in the middle of the cocktail area, I didn't think to go stop and look at it and none of my bridesmaids or family mentioned it to me.  Thankfully, I was able to capture an image from the raw footage our videographer shot so I have at least have this...the rest of these images are of the elements that were on the table:

This was the one thing that did not come out the way I wanted it to.  They were supposed to have a satin red cranberry linen on this table along with some extra little votive candles...oh well.

Our escort card table - I was so super excited about how all of the little chair favor boxes I had bought, designed and assembled were going to look all set up.  Unfortunately, since we didn't want guests taking them before the ceremony started and the guests had to walk through the cocktail area to get to the ceremony area, our coordinators didn't set them up until after the ceremony started.  So our photog didn't get any shots of them all set up before the guests rushed back up and started grabbing them.

Most of the cocktail centerpieces - I didn't even take the time to look at all of the flowers that were around the cocktail area.  I was trying to focus on the guests.

Our ceremony area all set up - I wish I would have gone out to see it before the guests arrived because they were setting it up while we were walking around taking our photos.  And once that ceremony starts and you make the walk down the aisle, don't think for a second that you are going to be able to take in all the decor around you!

TODAY'S WEDDING TIP:  Be sure to have a bridesmaid, coordinator, friend or someone know if there are specific things you want to take a moment to experience or see on your wedding day.  Give them a written list and ask them to come up to you at one or several points throughout the event to remind you that you wanted to go look at your escort table or whatever.  And if there are certain things that won't be set up and available to see until later, then be sure to ask a coordinator or whoever is going to set them up to take a photo of them for you as soon as it is all ready in case your photographer isn't able to get over there before your guests do.

I still wonder if some of our cards got misplaced or taken by mistake which would explain not receiving gifts from certain guests. Or maybe they are just cheap. haha.

I wasn't able to see my ceremony setup until I walked down the aisle because they had to move everything inside last minute due to rain. But I remember walking in the room thinking "It's so pretttty" haha. I did make a point to see the setup of everything for the reception before it started.

thanks for this post, i think your tip is really helpful. i have already found myself listing the crafty projects or areas i have put so much thought into for the photographer to snap before the ceremony...i feel like it might be petty and i can't help but feel a little guilty that i want her to shoot the seating cards more than the groomsmen playing croquet but like you i'm afraid i wont get a chance to see these things myself as i'm hiding out waiting to walk down the aisle, and really we've put how many months of effort into creating these things?

I also missed a few things, especially before the ceremony, when I did catch a glance of the steup without really having the time to fully take it in. I also only cuaght a very short glimpse of our cocktail hour setup, because I was so busy taking pictures and then trying to cool down for a few minutes. There's so much to take in, and the day goes by so fast, that it almost feels impossible at times to be a part of all that's going on.

This is a very good tip. I did actually give our photog a list and we got most of the shots on the list but not all. There is just so much going on it is very overwhelming.

I love the idea of the memorial table. I'm glad you were able to capture some stills from your videographer. It turned out really beautiful and I'm sure your guests appreciated it :)

Lol, this is so true. There are so many things we didn't get to see. Your wedding tip is so on point. If I could add to your list I would suggest having someone save some cookies/candy/treats for you and your husband :)

I want - no NEED - to see the reception and ceremony spaces all set up before the wedding or I will die. OK, so that's being really dramatic, but if I don't get to see these things after 15 months of hard work, I will be very disappointed. Great tips, as usual!
