What a way to end a honeymoon...

It's me and Mr Fix It's last full day here in Bali.  We head home tomorrow afternoon.

And I have been checking e-mail and my blog real quick almost every single morning of our honeymoon.

Well today, I got the e-mail I didn't want to come...our friend who was staying at our house with our dog, Kuta (named after the beach where we are staying here in Bali) informed me that our pup passed away last night while we were gone.

I totally started crying when I read the e-mail.  And now I hav to decide if I should tell Mr Fix It now and ruin the last day and a half of our honeymoon or wait until we are on our way home to tell him.

He is going to be devastated...and I am so conflicted.  We knew he was not doing good since we found out he had a terminal heart condition two months ago, but we prayed he'd make it til we got home and at least have a few months with him.

Please pray for us, this is not the best way to end our honeymoon...but at least our dog is now at peace and not in pain.

It will be the worst thing in the world for us to walk into our empty home now for the first time.  I can't even imagine it.  Thanks for all of your encouragement and support...it means so much.

Remember how I mentioned coping with OCD in our wedding video?

Well, there was a perfect example of why me and Mr Fix It have to learn to 'cope' with it on the day before the rehearsal!

We both have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder).  We both are pretty anal about things and both like to be in control and have things the way we want.  Now we've learned how to relate to one another with these things so we have a great relationship, but for the rest of the world...oh watch out!

The day before the rehearsal (while I was at work), Mr Fix It was supposed to take his dad down to the Men's Wearhouse and pick up their tuxedos along with some other tuxes for his family who was arriving late Wednesday night.  I told them I wanted them to be tried on either in the store if possible, or first thing Thursday morning so that if there were any problems with things missing or not fitting, then they could be handled before the rehearsal at 3 pm on Thursday.

Well, at 11 am on Wednesday I get a call from him asking if he can just go pick all the tuxedos up on Thursday afternoon on his way to the rehearsal?

Now you know me by now, ladies.  I make plans, I e-mail the people involved, I communicate information, and I stay on top of the tasks so that if anything goes wrong, I have time to resolve the issue.  So I proceeded to explain to Mr Fix It how a last minute tux pick up just an hour before our rehearsal was going to be a bad idea!  What if something does fit?  What if something is missing?  Then you are late to the rehearsal and leave the shop no real time to order in a new item or sew or tailor something.

He was not happy with me and after a little bit of a spat, he finally said that since I was such a 'worry wart' he'd just go and handle it right then.

Well, a few hours later, I get a call from my sister who is in the shop at the same time as Mr Fix It picking up my little nephew's ring bearer tux.  My nephew's pants are way too big so they have to get a new pair in for him.  Then I ask her how Mr Fix It's tux is going?  To which she tells me that he says "Because of my OCD, I am having the sleeves shortened so you can see more of the white of the shirt underneath."

I told her to make sure he knew that was exactly why I wanted it handled that day.  And of course she relays the message and I hear him say in the background "I know, that's why I went ahead and came down."

See, us OCD people know that it is always smart to give yourself extra time to deal with the imperfections you will mostly certainly come across.  So glad that they were able to get those things handled.  I would have been livid if he would have been late to the rehearsal while he was having the sleeves tailored!!!

A few more wedding day pics...

So more and more pics are slowly coming in via our photo sharing site and Facebook.  Just thought I'd post a few more...those these don't have any recap info with them and they are obviously not pro quality, but what the heck...I can't keep anything to myself!

By the way, we have had gorgeous weather here in Australia the past 2 days and I have some stuff to share in honeymoon recaps too down the road!  Including an unfortunate encounter with some local wildlife!

A quick photo from the wedding day...

I haven't seen any pro pics yet, but here's a couple that were shared via our wedding photo sharing site from some friends...

Oh, and FYI, it rained the past 2 days here in Australia :(  But Mr Fix It and I are still enjoying just hanging out and relaxing.  We had an amazing dinner at a place called Omeros Bros in Marina Mirage in Main Beach near Surfer's Paradise last night and finally have some good weather heading in today for our trip to the rainforest at Lamington National Park.

The weather was amazing...venue was gorgeous!

I absolutely loved the way the colors came together and the flowers were beautiful!!!

This was when one of the ring bearers was walking down the aisle with the sign that reads "Run, John, Run"...more to come! :)

Anonymous strikes again!

I'm still at the beginning of our honeymoon, but as I promised, I left some scheduled posts for all of you lovely ladies!

Over on one of the other sites that I am a featured blogger bride, I received an 'Anonymous' comment regarding my previous post about the 11th hour wedding guests and the B list that we had for our guest list.

So regarding my post, here is the comment that was left and my response:

I honestly think there is nothing tackier then a "B" list. You either wanted them at the wedding or you didn't.

I honestly think there is nothing tackier than people who don't respect people's budgets and size limitations. Wouldn't it be nice if I had the money to be able to invite the 400 people that I could have easily included and WANTED at my wedding? But unfortunately, some of us are not so fortunate as to have unlimited funds.

If it were up to me, I would have invited every person I've met since I was in grade school..because I am the type of loving person that includes anyone and everyone and *wants* them all there and celebrating with us. But that is just not realistic in today's economy and such.

The one thing I've learned in my life is to recognize and respect that everyone has their own abilities, opinions and ways of doing things. There is absolutely no reason at all to degrade, judge or name call just because you don't agree with something.

All you needed to say was "Personally, I don't think I'd ever be able to have a B list but I am glad it worked out for you."

But I guess you don't have that kind of 'tact,' especially coming from Anonymous commenters - lovely.

UGH!  Have you had any unfortunate comments or anonymous comments that left you frustrated and annoyed?  How did you handle it?

G'day from Australia!

Just stoppin' in to let you all know that I have checked out all the comments on my blog and I am so honored, humbled, excited for all the wonderful blessings from all of you!

We are here in Burleighs Head in Queensland and rented a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment for 3 nights before we head to Lamington National Park for a day or two.

We are right across the street from the beach and have amazing ocean views from everywhere in our apartment.  Of course Mr Fix It hit the surf as soon as we were settled in and the weather has been good...not quite what we wanted but still good.

I can't wait to get back and start sharing recaps and pics with everyone...the magician was a HUGE hit...the photobooth was packed...weather was great.

Everything about our day was good...of course, I definitely have a few stories to share...for I thought for sure I was going to pass out...and there was unfortunately a few 'war wounds'during the ceremony ;)  More to come...

Some amazing shots from one of our vendors

So it's Monday morning April 19th.  By now, I am probably almost through our first full day on the Gold Coast in Australia!  But I promised some scheduled posts while I am away to keep everyone busy.  And of course, if at all possible, I'll make some stops by the blog when we check in for internet access while on the other side of the world - unfortunately, I've got to keep up with the family and office while we're gone since it will be a full two weeks away!

Anyway, when I came across this amazing coordinator's blog (Joyful Weddings and Events) and saw pictures of an aqua and dark red wedding at our very own venue, I became obsessed!  And so I was so thrilled when they shared the names of their vendors.  That's how I found Stacia of Serendipity Design.

I contacted her and we worked through some ideas about my invitations as well as a lot of other stationery needs and the costs involved.  Stacia was willing to work around my budget and with some ideas like having me assemble the invites myself, I was able to get them for a very good price and even better quality.  When you consider that these were custom designed invites with photos on them as well as an extra insert card, well, the whole thing made me giddy!

I worked with Stacia via e-mail (she is in Chicago) for over six months!  We would go back and forth on revisions and ideas and eventually came up with the final product which the guests all loved!

She has way better photos on her blog than I could ever have taken with my camera so I thought I'd share some with you:

Click here to see the blog posting on her site and be sure to check out her work...she is an amazing vendor to work with and has some high quality but still affordable work you should look into!

Rehearsal Day!!!

So, yesterday was my last full day at work...I am officially out of the office until May 3rd now because........

TOMORROW IS MY WEDDING DAY!

I seriously cannot believe that I will be getting married tomorrow!  After a 16 month engagement and what seems like eat, sleep and breathing nothing but our wedding for over a year now, I am finally going to be done with all of this planning and just party and celebrate!  It has been such a crazy ride...mostly good but not without it's share of breakdowns and hiccups along the way.  But that's just goes with any type of wedding planning, right?

Well, today I will be getting my nails done and then getting my hair washed, dried and styled for our Beever family pictures that we are taking right before the rehearsal at 3:00 pm today.  Then it's a super fun dinner and just relaxing with my girlies.

My best friend, L flies in today from Idaho and will be staying with me tonight along with fellow bridesmaid, cousin A.  I really hope I get a good night's sleep.

Get ready ladies, because tomorrow will be filled (hopefully) with many brief obsessive photo filled posts throughout the day as I snap pics on my cell phone and send them over here to my blog :)  Can't wait to share with all of you.

Weather is predicted to be 72 degrees and mostly sunny!  Oh praise God!  Is it weird that I have been obsessively stalking http://www.weather.com/ several times a day for a week now?  The weather here the past couple days in the OC has been gorgeous and I am just hoping it keeps gettin' better through tomorrow night.
Oh, how I can't wait to see our guests' reactions to the wedding video I made right before I walk down the aisle!  So fun!

Have a wonderful day, ladies...

11th hour wedding guests...

Our guest list has waivered.  As you remember, we originally invited 218 people on our A list and then had a back up B list of about 10 - 15 people so that if enough people said they couldn't attend, we could bump up some B listers to invite that we had to set by the way side.  Family first and all that jazz.  Plus we had a lot of out of towners who originally said they'd be coming but then replied with a no after the invites were actually mailed.

And of course, there were those people that we forgot to invite or that our parents asked us to please include.  I was getting really worried.  Over the course of two months, AFTER our invites had been mailed out, our guest list grew from 218 to 243!!!  Our venue could only hold 202 people with the smaller dance floor.  So there was a chance I was going to have to put people outside on the patio :(

Anyhow, all is well, because with just two weeks to go before the wedding we were at a number of about 195 total.  And we still had/have a couple of people that will be iffy right up until the very last minute so we are okay with that.

The cool thing is, that because we have had 46 people unfortunately not able to attend, I have about 6 empty seats at the reception.  So when my best friend from high school who now lives on the east coast posted on Facebook that she was coming to So Cal the same week as our wedding I immediately e-mailed her and told her she *had* to come to our wedding!  She didn't think I was serious but we were able to work it all out and now she will be coming.

Back in high school, my yearbook advisor was a very influential teacher in my life.  She wrote in my yearbook that I better invite her to my wedding one day.  Well, that was 20 years ago and I tried to search for her on Facebook and the internet but never found her.  Then randomly, with just 6 days to go until our wedding, she found me on Facebook!  And saw that I was getting married.  So I of course asked her to please come and told her how I never forgot that she wrote that in my yearbook.  She couldn't believe it, and was very honored so now her and her husband are attending!  That is just beyond random!  I am so super excited about this.  She knew my sister and my parents well, too so it will be so cool for all of us to reconnect.

So funny...I was so stressed for a while about not having enough room for all of our guests and in the 11th hour, I had enough empty seats to be able to add some old friends that were very important to me in my life.  I was also able to let 3 of our friends bring a date with them which we had not originally planned for.  It was kind of a bummer that I was reprinting escort cards and table assignments and seating charts just up until 2 days ago (Monday of the wedding week), but wasn't a huge issue.  I am giving the final charts to our coordinator at our rehearsal on tomorrow.

Did you have any last minute guest additions?

Update:  As of a few days ago when I wrote this post, I have heard from 3 people that they will not be able to attend the wedding...so now I have even more openings I had not planned on :)  I think the most unpredictable thing about a wedding is the guest list!!!

Why in the heck is he bringing a crew of 6 guys?!?

Before I start, let me just say - for the first time, with 3 days to go, I am feeling really excited about our wedding!  'Bout time!  Though I may get nervous again, the anxiety seems to be gone and the joy and giddiness of anticipation is finally starting to set in.  I am SO happy that I have everything done.  I pick up my gown tonight and then head off for a 90 minute massage and facial!  Then tomorrow is my last day at work...so crazy and exciting!

Anyway, if you haven't figured it out by now, I'm pretty controlling, detailed and anal when it comes to organization and planning things.  Needless to say, I definitely met with every single one of my vendors in person after interviewing at least 3 to 4 people in each area of service.  Once I booked a vendor, I had several follow up meetings with them to go over the plans, details and terms of our agreement.

I was able to negotiate almost every one of my services with the vendors we hired.  And for things like the DJ, photographer, videographer, coordinator, etc I asked for an additional assistant to be working at our wedding.  So we have two photogs for example.

The one vendor that I have not met in person yet is our videographer, Gary Freedline of Video Keepsakes of Beverly Hills.  I loved their web site as they have tons of samples of videos from past weddings they've done.  But they were all the way up in Bev Hills.  So after interviewing 2 or 3 other videographers in person, I settled for a phone meeting with Gary.  I was also really happy when I happened to be watching Get Married one day last year and Gary was a featured vendor they were using for a spot on new videography options and techniques!

So I asked Gary for an additional shooter on the day of the wedding so we could be sure to capture different angles of events.  Like when we do the toasts, I want one camera on the person giving the toast and one on the guests' reactions to the toast.  :)  But for the deal he was giving us, he said he couldn't guarantee a second person in our package.  However, he did indicate that April is typically a slow month and that if they weren't fully booked, they'd try to surprise us with some extra equipment and an extra person if possible (at no additional charge of course).  I was happy with that - and hopeful.

Well, along the way, we've had some lengthy e-mail conversations but with just a few months to go before the wedding we hadn't really communicated much.  Gary was busy with personal family related issues and the responses I got from the e-mails I sent him were very short and didn't seem like they covered everything I was wondering about.  But I had total faith in Gary.

This past week, I actually phoned him instead of e-mail to confirm our details and final payment.  During the conversation, he asked me how many vendor meals we were providing him?  I told him I had allowed for two in case he was able to bring an extra person with him.  To which he responded, "Well, there's probably going to be six of us."  SIX people from my videographer's company?  Is he kidding me?!?  I was so super excited!

He then asked if there was a place where two guys could set up in a room somewhere to be working throughout the day.  I asked him why...were they going to try to do a same day edit on site?  He said "Well, I'm not telling you."

Oh my gosh...I am so excited about all of this.  It sounds like Gary is going to hook us up big time and I cannot wait to see what he is trying to pull off and what our video will look like!  I am looking forward to sharing it with all of you just months from now :)

PS  I also had hired my coordinator for her and 2 assistants but she told me in our meeting this week she's bringing a 4th assistant as well - her hubby :)

Were there any vendors who went over and beyond what you contracted them for in your planning process?

Why do I feel numb?

Ok, so there's just 5 days to go now until I will offiicially be Mrs. Beever!  It's pretty incredible.

This week, I will:

Get my final body waxing on Monday
Get a facial and massage on Tuesday (after I pick up my wedding gown from my seamstress!)
Get the guys' tuxedos and deliver them as needed on Wednesday
Get my nails done on Thursday morning and then head to the rehearsal at 3 pm.
Get married on FRIDAY!

People have been asking me the past week or two if I am excited or nervous or anxious or both.  Honestly, I look at them and say "I feel numb."

I really am not excited...not because I'm sad or disappointed or anything, but just because I've been too freaking busy with finishing up the wedding stuff and working full time to have time to feel anything.  I guess that is good because it means I don't have time to feel nervous or anxious either.

Work has been SUPER DUPER busy!  I mean, like crazy busy.  Like I've worked for this man for 8 years and I've never in that entire time been as busy as I am right now.  It's again, probably a good thing.  Thank the Lord I had finished so many things so many months before the wedding because if I had not been prepared and thought that work would be smooth sailing as it has always been, I would have been a stressed out wreck!

So here I am, the Sunday before my wedding week.  Family will be arriving on Wednesday, I should be able to enjoy myself and not have to think one thing about wedding related to-do's.

Now all I have to do is pray that I get all my work done before my last work day on Wednesday!  Pray for me!

P.S.  Today is my little niece's first birthday party in San Clemente at a local park.  She turns 1 year old just two days before our wedding!  So exciting!

Oh it's on now!

So a few weeks ago I did this super cool thing - thanks to Jenn over at a Bride's Brain I found out you can submit your application for a marriage license online.  Woo-hoo!  So I did a google search and found the Orange County Clerk Recorder's site and took less than 5 minutes to fill in the info online.  Then I hit submit.

We have 60 (or 90?) days from the time we submit the application online to head down to one of our local courthouses to actually pick up the license and pay the fee.  So easy!  Especially since there's a small local courthouse just about 5 or so minutes from my home.  :)

So we did it...after the big fiasco from last week of trying to get down there on Tuesday only to discover they'd closed, we headed on down in there yesterday and officially got the license to prove that we are somehow legally able to wed!  This is just a formality for me so that we can share insurance coverages, bequeath property to each other and file our taxes jointly.  It's a governmental thing as I see it.  The truth is, in God's eyes, I don't need no stinkin' paper to tell me that me and Mr Fix It will be joined together as one flesh, one man and one woman...to live and love and honor the Lord with our lives and our relationship as husband and wife.

The license did however make me realize that we are totally moving ahead and it is definitely on now!

Of course, though somewhat quick (there was only a line of about 4 people in front of us), the trip was not without incident:  Mr Fix It thought it would be funny to sign an 'X' next to the line where he was supposed to sign the license.  He laughed and then signed his name next to it.  Only then the counter lady told him that she would have to reprint an entirely new license because he can't do that on his signature line.  I just sighed...he thinks he's so funny sometimes but he is really just causing wasted time :)

Anyway, with just 6 days to go until the wedding, I am TOTALLY done!  I e-mailed all my final vendors yesterday with the last minute details and had my final meeting with my three coordinators who will be running the show.  I had our rings cleaned yesterday - mine was dipped in rhodium so it looks brand new again!  I just have to drop off all the wedding items to my coordinator tomorrow afternoon and pick up my gown on Tuesday after work.  Then the guys need to pick up their tuxes and we start the weekend festivities!

It feels so good to be done with EVERYTHING!  Of course, I still need to clean the house for all the family that is coming in and pack our luggage for our honeymoon today.  But that will hopefully be done within a few hours.  :)

Do you need a marriage license BEFORE the wedding?

So the big fiasco this past week?  Getting our marriage license!

Em over at Burning River Bride recently posted about getting her marriage license.  I planned on having the same kind of post with a pic of us outside of the courthouse with the license in hand.  I had been wanting to get it for weeks, but Mr Fix It kept putting it off.

So on Friday April 2nd, I told him, "We have just two weeks before the wedding!  It's time to get the license."

Well, of course on Friday afternoon, he calls me and asks "Babe, can we please get it another day?  I am just so not in the mood today."  Why do you have to be in the mood?  Really?

So I am not happy at all but tell him fine and tell him that since I work full time every day except Friday that he is going to have to meet me down there after work on Tuesday before they close at 5 pm to pick up our license.  He agrees.

Tuesday comes around, I get to the courthouse and call to see where he is.  He's in traffic on the freeway.  I walk up to the courthouse door and they are closed!  GASP!  What?  It's only 4:20 pm!  Don't most government buildings close at 5:00 pm?!?  WTF?!?

So I tell Mr Fix It who then proceeds to scream and cuss at me about all the time he has wasted and how he has 'so much to do.'  Then he yells "With everything you've been obsessed with about this wedding, you didn't think to call and check what the hours were before I drive all the way down here?"

Well, I tried to ask Jesus to keep me patient and calm but it didn't work well.  Because I began yelling at him about how it's all his fault because he kept putting me off and I wanted to do this on Friday when he blew me off!

We hung up and 5 minutes later he calls me back apologizing profusely and asking me to please forgive him, he's just totally stressed.  I told him I was sorry that I didn't call to check first (I thought about it and always do that but for whatever reason just sat with the assumption).  He told me there was no way he was going to let me apologize for anything with all the work I've been doing and he was totally wrong to scream at me like that.

No biggie, we're both over it and we just went to dinner and he helped me finish assembling the escort card favor boxes.  So we're going to go today instead.

Funny thing is - in the course of him yelling, he asks me why we even need to get the marriage license now anyway?  I told him I guess we won't be legally married on the 16th and he responds with "You can just fill it out and sign it later and date it with our wedding date.  It doesn't get mailed in until after anyway."

Now, I don't know much about it, but for some reason I am thinking you need to PICK UP the license BEFORE your actual wedding date!  Am I wrong?

I will definitely be blogging on wedding day!!!

So, I just learned this past weekend how to take pics and video on my cell phone and e-mail/text them to Blogger to be able to post from anywhere!

I tested it out with this post

So you can bet your bottom dollar that I will post some fun things to share while hanging out on the wedding day!  I may even have some bridesmaids act as 'guest posters' that day while I am all up and busy gettin' pretty, gettin' photographed and gettin' married!

So excited...can't wait to share with all of you!!!

WEATHER UPDATE:  The weather report now says it will be 73 degrees and Sunny on our day!  Oh how I hope this continues to get better and doesn't go down hill!  And it even says less chance of rain on my niece's birthday on the Sunday before, too!

Yea - hope things keep lookin' up for us!  We're so close now!  Tomorrow is my last Friday as a single lady!
8, count 'em EIGHT more days to go!!!

The weather forecast for wedding day...

So yesterday, I checked http://www.weather.com/ to see what the weather forecast was for the rehearsal day...they'll only give you a 10 day forecast and that's where we were.

But today - we're at 9 days!  And last summer I signed up for http://www.weather.com's/ Wedding Weather info.  Basically, you type in the city and date you're getting married and they give you all kind of averages, rainfall info, cloud cover, etc for the past several years.

April is typically not a rainy month at all here in the OC in So Cal.  I tracked the weather every day last April and it only rained 3 times and it was only for a few minutes/hours in the middle of the night while people were sleeping.  So I had high hopes for us getting good weather on wedding day.

Now I'd be thrilled with comfortably sunny but I've heard people say it's better for it to be parly cloudy because you don't have a huge glare or sun or shadows in people's eyes for photos.  Whatever.  I just don't want it to rain!

Dumb Mr Fix It kept telling me that since it's an El Nino year, we'd have a higher chance of rain and I keep telling him I'm going to smack him!  I have spent 16 months and thousands of dollars to entertain and celebrate our marriage with 195 guests and I am just praying the Lord blesses us with a beautiful day.

Needless to say, I was a little sad when I checked the weather forecast yesterday and it said that it was going to be 67 degrees with 30% chance of showers on the rehearsal day!  NOOOOO!!!!

Well, my mom kept telling me how the weather forecasts change right up until the day so not to stress about that stuff.

So imagine how excited I was when I checked my e-mail this morning and received this little bit of info from My Wedding Weather on http://www.weather.com/:

Particularly note the wonderful little note under the temperature that reads:
Comfort level:  Delightful

YEA!!!

Now I just have to hope that it only gets better and not worse.  And as far as the rehearsal day, check out this update from this morning:

Sunny with no 30% chance of showers from yesterday's forecast!

Finally, here's the forecast so far for the week up to the wedding:

This is amazing!  But note that in the time I took the pic for just the day of to the time I took the pic for the whole week, the temperature jumped 3 degrees!  Guess mom wasn't lying when she said they change it all the time.

The only bummer now is that my little niece is having her one year birthday party at a park on Sunday :(  So now we're praying that forecast goes away for the showers predicted for that day!

Were/Are you nervous about your wedding day weather?  I keep telling Mr Fix It, I don't care if it's raining, we're getting married outside regardless.  He says no way but I *will* win this one...let's just pray that it is sunny and there's no need for an argument :)

THE WEDDING VIDEO IS HERE!!!

Before I start:  Today is the 10 day mark in the countdown...tomorrow starts SINGLE digitis!

So remember back on January 27th when I shared a little sneak peek of the video that will play at our ceremony before I walk down the aisle?  Well, I finished it this past week!  And I am so excited to share it with all of you.

A few bridesmaids and family members have seen it and they have all loved it.  Our DJ said it's his favorite part of our wedding so far and he even told another client about it and asked if he could show them the sneak peek on my blog.

Well, here it is.  I had to upload it in two parts with the program I used (didn't want it on YouTube).  It's a little long at about 19 minutes but everyone says it is so entertaining people will not feel like it is too long to sit through at all.  And if you can't make it through the whole thing, be sure to at least skip ahead to about 3 minutes and 25 seconds in where one of my favorite aspects of the video begins (and continues throughout) :)

For all of you who are my family and friends - meaning guests attending our wedding.  If you have found my blog, you best close your browser right now.  For you still have about 10 days to see this video and I definitely want it to be a surprise!!!

I'm seriously DONE!!!

So, I think I am truly done with all of the wedding planning and task lists and to-do's.  No really...see that task list up above this post?  That's really all that I have left to do that is wedding related.  And we still have 11 days to go and that stuff should be able to be knocked out pretty easy (sending up prayers).

This past week/weekend I did the following:

*  Finished assembling programs with help of Bridesmaid Deb
*  Assembled all the escort card favor boxes filled with M&M's and JellyBeans with help of MOH Julie and BM Erin (printed all the guests' names and cut them out and put them in alphabetical order)
*  Fixed up my little silver bells that needed some TLC (they'll hold the trivia cards on each table)
*  Reorganized and confirmed that I had all my kids' favor boxes correctly identified (we added 3 kids to our guest list that I needed to account for)
*  Met with my florist and paid her in full, met with my caterer, selected our menu and paid him in full
*  Had my MOH (sister) design our menu cards to display on the appetizer and buffet tables
*  Put together our gift card box
*  FINISHED OUR WEDDING VIDEO that will be played at the ceremony as a lead in to my walk down the aisle (Post coming tomorrow with the final video for you to see!)
*  Printed out final seating charts for coordinators and caterers

I'm waiting for our placecards to arrive this week so that I can put them together by table assignments for our coordinator and then that's it!

So I really think I should have everything done at least a good week before the big day!  Yea me!  I can just relax and get my massage and my nails done and all that jazz.

Of course, I do need to pick up all the tuxedos two days before the wedding to deliver to all of our guys coming in from out of town.  I am praying that goes smoothly as you will remember from my post a few days ago that stupid tuxedo shop has been the biggest thorn in my side during this whole process!

Well, ladies...I know a few of you just got married or are soon to be married.  And then there are those of you who have a ways to go still.

Did/Do you feel like you had everything done with a few days to spare or were you rushing up until the night before?  If you're not married yet, do you think you'll be able to give yourself time to have everything done a little early?  It is SO nice for me because now if I forget anything, I have a few days to go over it all in my head and handle any last minute issues.

PS  All is well here after the 7.2 earthquake in Mexico that we definitely felt here in So Cal.  Mr Fix It and I were in the grocery store when the earthquake started and every aisle had a few things that fell off the shelves.  It was not that scary but definitely strong and longer than most we have had lately.  What a weekend.

What I did this weekend...

Assembled 130 of these little pretties for the escort cards. They are filled with personalized M&M's and red Jelly Beans...yummy & cute!
What are you doing for escort cards?

No longer quite the wedding tv addict

Are you like me?  Do you like watching wedding related shows on tv?  Well, for the last two years, I've been pretty addicted to all things wedding on tv.  And thanks to channels like WEtv, TLC and the Style network, I have been able to keep my brain on inactive mode by filling my mind with mindless shows like Rich Bride, Poor Bride - Say Yes to the Dress - Whose Wedding is it Anyway? - My Fair Wedding - Platinum Weddings - Bridezillas, etc.

I got my daughter hooked on them, too.  But over the past couple of months, I find that I have begun to lighten up on my wedding tv intake.  The main reason is because I just simply do not have that much time to watch tv anymore :)  But another huge part of the reason is because at this stage in the engagement, with only 13 days to go until the wedding, there's really no reason to watch these shows for ideas or advice.  In addition, more than anything, they kind of stress me out.  They make me think of my own wedding and the things that may go wrong or the anxiety of all of the planning that has gone into the big day and all that jazz.

So for now, I am on a wedding show hiatus.  At least until well after the big day when I can enjoy them again and look back on how much better my wedding was than all of theirs :)

Besides, why in the world would I want to watch shows like this that just make me envious of what I know I can't afford and won't have at my own wedding?

What about you?  Do you watch any wedding shows on tv and what are your thoughts on them and why you watch?

Stupid tuxedo shop

Said tuxedo shop will remain nameless but let's just list the issues I have had with them since we originally reserved our tuxedos back in December:

1)  Have had to make several calls to confirm the cost of the tuxedo rentals because every time a new groomsmen/ring bearer/father went in to reserve and pay for their tux, they were given a different amount than the discounted price we were given for the rentals.
2)  They charged my sister for my nephew's tuxedo rental which was supposed to be free!  Then said they would fix the mistake and refund her when we pick the tux up.
3)  They didn't charge one of the GM the full amount of the tuxedo when he came in to get fitted even though the notes in the computer were made VERY clear so that every guy would pay in FULL when they got fitted so that we would not have to pay any open balances since we are picking up all the tuxedos for them!
4)  Their computer screwed up on one GM's tux info and only charged him $40 instead of $140 to which they told us to 'consider it a free gift and pay it in full immediately so we'd get the cheaper rate.'  Only we found out this week, the computer magically corrected it's problem and is now requesting the balance of $100 due (sigh)
5)  My dad went in to get fitted this week and was told that the pants we reserved do not 'match' the jacket we reserved.  Um, hello?  Not true!  So I had to call the store *again* to have them look into it.  They indicated that wasn't true and the pants were fine.  However, they did note that the ring bearers did not have the same type of pleated pants reserved as the rest of the wedding party!  So they had to fix that mistake, too.

Every single time I call them to check on the status of something or ask to make sure everything is correct, they find some other problem or something wrong.  WTH?!?

Seriously - I'm getting over this wedding planning and these stupid vendors real quick!

14 days to go - THANK GOD!!!

What happens when a cake maker and a construction worker try to communicate?

Before I begin, let me just say that it is APRIL!!!   Hellooooo wedding month!

So you can read all about our cake saga here.  We gave up on our hopes of getting our dream cake:

And instead decided we'd still keep it 'different' by having an 'offset layered' cake something like this:

But with each layer decorated similar to this style:

Then when our baker told us that it was going to be an additional $1,000 to build that upside down cake we basically said 'No thanks' and decided to give the money to a family friend who has made all of our wedding, birthday and shower cakes for many, many years now.  She's not a pro - she works out of her house, but she would listen to exactly what we want and only charge us $1.00 per slice for 200 people, so how could we beat that?

So we met with her about the design and the flavors and she made us a sample of the red velvet with cream cheese frosting which was just yummylicious!  The only thing was that she didn't have a stand that would offset those round layers like the pic above.  Well, Mr Fix It to the rescue!  He offered to construct the stand for her.  They talked about the sizes they would need and the height of the dowels that would go through each cake layer to secure the cake on the stand.  They talked about how he was going to 'countersink' the dowels so that the stand would be more sturdy and all that jazz.  I didn't understand what they were saying but they seemed to get each other.

So we left and last Sunday Mr Fix It built the stand.  Sorry I didn't get any pics of it but it ended up being a bit of a fiasco.  Because...when a cake maker and a construction worker swap instructions and details, it's like the blind leading the blind.  It's like a deaf dog talking to a mute bird.  (Does that make sense?)

The point is...Mr Fix It wasn't thinking like a cake maker.  And he obviously doesn't ever watch Amazing Wedding Cakes or the Cake Boss because he constructed a stand that wasn't very helpful to a cake maker.

Basically, he used screws, color coded dowels, lines, numbers and all that jazz to build a 'puzzle tower.'  That's what I would refer to it as.  I tried to be patient and understanding and very appreciative but he was getting obviously irritated with me when I tried to explain to him how the cake stand wasn't going to work.

He built it in such a way that you put the one stand down and set the dowels into the little holes he drilled.  Then he expected our friendor to 'PUSH' the cake onto the dowels.  That's what you would need to do because he then built the bottom of the next layer to have holes in it that would go into the dowels below.  Then you actually SCREW the one stand onto the top of the other into the dowels.

So I tried to explain to him that bakers don't push cakes onto dowels.  They set the cake on the stand, decorate it, and then they push or hammer the dowels INTO the cake.  Then they set the next layer (stand) on top of those dowels.  Well, he wasn't getting it.

Then I tried to explain that if the baker 'screwed' each layer into the one below it, how was the caterer supposed to get the layers apart in order to cut the cake.  To which my lovely intelligent Mr Fix It responded:  "They don't take the cake apart to cut it.  They cut around the layers and around the dowels."

Really, honey?  Is that how they do it?  That doesn't waste half of the cake trying to cut 'around' the dowel rods?  Oh sweet baby, how naive you are!

After a bit of frustration and some stupid comments Mr Fix It made, I finally just told him I'd give it to her and see if she would be able to work with it.  So I drove straight to her house, showed her what he created, and asked her what she thought.  We both couldn't seem to figure our why Mr Fix It 'color coded' the dowels to fit in specific holes...they're all just basic dowels that are the same length so there's no reason for that really...other than the fact that he drilled holes in the top of some of them for the screws but that was obvious by looking at them.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Mr Fix It set the very top layer WAY too far off to the side which I specifically had told him NOT to do because it would make the cake unsturdy.  But he insisted that the screws would hold it all together and that he tested it with weights from his weight bench.  Whatever.  I was trying to get him to see that the screws were useless!

But in the end, me and our friendor talked through some options and realized that there was a way she could actually make it work - and even using the screws!  Which meant that the stand should in fact be pretty sturdy (hopefully).  And the caterer will be able to slide each layer off to cut it and then when he takes the stand out of each layer, the screwed in dowels will be pulled out of the layer below.  Does all this make sense?  Because it was a nightmare trying to figure out.  But it looks like it will hopefully work.

We'll see in just 15 days whether or not the cake falls over!  I am honestly over the cake and I only care if it tastes good!  :)  Cuz as my dad used to say: "Who cares what it looks like?  It all ends up in the same place anyway!"
