Wed Recap: Why teenagers are annoying!

I have mentioned many times how I have a 15 year old daughter from a previous relationship.  Well, today, she is taking her driver's permit test!  Pray for me!

She and Mr Fix It have been a part of each other's lives since she was 9 years old.  It's kind of crazy...but they love each other and get along great.  Too great...in fact, they sometimes annoy me.  And since Mr Fix It is truly still a big kid himself, the two of them together usually causes me grief.

That said, we definitely wanted to include Little Miss in our wedding ceremony and our vows.

As you may remember in this post, Mr Fix It made a vow to be a patient and caring step-father to Little Miss.  Well, we wanted her to take some responsibility in our newly formed family as well.

And so we created a special little part of the ceremony in which she stepped forward and the pastor asked her a brief question about whether she will love and support the two of us in our marriage.  She then was to respond with "I will" after which, Mr Fix It was to place a ring on her finger as well...sort of a little promise ring uniting our entire family.

Of course, we didn't run through this at the rehearsal and so no one knew what the heck was going on. It's kind of silly and we laughed our way through most of it.  Little Miss wasn't sure where to stand or how to walk around me to join us.  In addition, as you'll see, she totally held true to herself as me and Mr Fix It did with her little 'unplanned' response.  Check it:

I could have killed her!  Little twerp.  Teenagers are so cocky and annoying...they just can't hold to traditions and rules of any type.  Oh well...everyone laughed, and I did, too at the time, but afterwards I told her she was a pain!

Share time:  Do you have any children or other family members that you incorporated into your ceremony or vows?  Did you have (or do you suspect) that someone in your wedding party may go 'off script' with their role during the ceremony?

I couldn't watch the video here at work :(

That's nice you were able to include her in the ceremony like that! I will have 3 jr. bridesmaids and one flower girl but they won't really have any special roles other than walking down the aisle.

I am hoping to have my stepfather read the "love is patient" verse if he's comfortable doing that. It means a lot to me as he always would tell me "love is patient" when I was waiting to get engaged :)

Oh my gosh...that is SO something 15 year old me would have done. I was definitely a smart*ss (oh who am I kidding? I still am.) Very cute, though :) And how fantastic that Mr. Fix It and Little Miss get along so well! You are very, very lucky.

I think it's really sweet that you incorporated this into your ceremony, even if she gave a response you weren't expecting :) All in good fun, and your guests were laughing, too! Your daughter is so pretty - sending good thoughts your way for her permit test.

ha! i adore that last picture too!

I had a ton of kids involved in mine. 2 girl cousins in the bridal party (ages 11 and 15) a flower girl (age 10) a groomsman (age 10), an usher (age 16) and two ring bearers (ages 2 and 5).

From what i remember, they were angels! but i still hear stories about the silly things they did :)

Thats so funny; such a lovely thing to include within your ceremony too.

We had a younger flowergirl who was just 11 and she was brilliant and even sang for us as a surprise!

It’s so great that you included her in the ceremony, even if she didn’t take it as seriously as you might have liked. I think you’re right that it’s just a “teenage” thing you just have to laugh and shrug off in the end. At our wedding, I guess you could say the only person who really went off-script was the priest, who didn’t know what he was doing!
