Diamonds are a man's best friend?

We started shopping for Mr. Fix It's ring about 3 weeks ago.  He was all over the place on this one.  We knew he wanted something different and not just a plain band.  And since he's in construction, he can't really wear his wedding ring all the time...not to work at all - it could end up costing him his finger if it got caught on something :(

So when we started hitting the local mall and some jewelry marts we saw price ranges from $100 to $1500 - of course.  I had budgeted a certain 'high' amount but it wasn't what I expected to pay because Mr. Fix It was leaning towards Titanium which is a little less expensive, durable and had some unique options.

The one thing I wasn't prepared for was the fact that he wanted diamonds in his ring!  At first I thought he was joking, but once he showed me some styles, I knew he was dead serious...and I didn't mind because I actually kind of liked some of them.

The search was on and these are some of the contenders:

We narrowed it down to two rings, this one:

And this one, which is actually my favorite!

It's hard to tell from the photo but it has a two toned yellow gold tint to the 'elevated' part in the middle but we are going to have the entire thing made in white gold and then have the lower outside portion polished with a high gloss and the wider part of the band will be in a more satin finish so there is a contrast.  What I love about it is that it has 2 princess cut diamonds in it - the same kind of diamonds that are on either side of my own wedding ring :)  So we almost kind of match.  The good news is that we got the quote 3 weeks ago and had the owner write down the price on a business card.  I don't know if you follow the markets, but gold just shot up this week and so we are probably getting it for a steal right now.  We should be purchasing it this Saturday and get it in within 2 weeks!  Another thing to check off the to-do list!

Have you bought your groom's rings yet?  What was the experience like?  Did he go for classic and traditional band or for something blinged out?

My husband picked out a tungsten ring, which can be cut so he wouldn't lose his finger! He's works outside and still wears his, but he did say that it's good to have one that is more flat if you do a lot of pounding.

Nice picks! My FI wanted something very simple. He really liked the Tungsten rings we saw in stores, but not the price tag so we went home and shopped online. Found his for $40...he was thrilled!

I love both of those, they look so classic. It's funny, the only criteria my fiance has for his ring is that there can be absolutely no diamonds! LOL We're playing with the idea that he picks out my wedding band and I pick out his and neither of us will know what they look like until we exchange them at our ceremony...

I think the last one is my favorite too. I wanted Mr. Milk to have some diamonds on his but he didn't, so went for a more traditional style ring with a modern design. He really loves it. He better! It was expensive and hard to find! :)

We haven't picked ours but I know he wants to use a combo of regular and white gold. Actually his aunt makes jewelry and the plan is for her to make his ring using some gold he found when he was younger.

I LOVE the first of the two you narrowed it down to, it screams man to me :)

Thanks for coming by my blog =) I do like the last ring. My fiancee has chosen his ring and it's gold. It's classic but modern.

I feel so bad I didn't stop by your blog these last two days. I love reading your posts...now I guess I have some reading to catch up :-)

We haven’t started the “search” for wedding bands yet, but my fiancee already mentioned he wants something simple and classic.

I really like the two options you narrowed and I also like the first one.

When we went shopping Mr B ended up liking a band with a diamond in it too. In the end we didn't go for it (as you know) but I think it's nice for everyone to get a bit of bling in their ring!

Good luck making the decision!

My boy also insisted on no diamonds in his man band. Nevertheless, the band he picked out was not what I had envisioned (and was over the price range I envisioned too!). Stainless surgical steel with an inlay of black ceramic. I tease him that he picked it because it wasn't very matrimonial looking. But it is a good looking ring.

Diamonds, nice! I actually picked my husband's ring but he had input. We got him a white gold ring with a matte textured trim and shiny center band. It was nice and simple and I got it in India so price was great (they only charge for weight).
